Yaz Lawsuit
Yaz Lawsuit have taken on a new high with over 13,000 people filing against them for not notifying consumers of side effects, not issuing a recall once the side effects were known, not properly testing the pill before releasing it to the public and even aggressively marketing the pill in order to receive maximum profits.
Side Effects
The severe side effects that people are suing over include heart attack or stroke, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Pulmonary Embolism (PE), Gallbladder Disease and even death. The side effects are supposed to be located on the information pamphlet that is given to consumers upon purchasing the medication, but they were not listed in the information. Consumers purchased the medication without knowledge of any of the debilitating side effects that the pills could cause.
Proper Testing
Before releasing any product to the public, manufacturers must ensure that the product has been properly tested. By not testing the product, manufacturers run the risk of seriously harming or killing people because the product was not up to certain standards.
Recalling a Product
If there is an issue that could be harmful to consumers, manufacturers are required to notify the public of the issue. Due to the high volume of people that were taking Yaz, it should have been the number one priority of the company, but it was not. There was never a recall issued, even after being notified of the harmful side effects.
Aggressive Marketing
Not only did Yaz manufacturers fail to issue a recall, but they continued aggressively marketing the birth control pill after being informed of the side effects. There were commercials on television and online, there were billboards, magazine and newspaper advertisements and even brochures and flyers in almost every Gynecologist office. After being notified of the issue, the marketing should have stopped, the pill should have been recalled and the patients should have been notified.
Yaz manufacturers’ failure to comply with proper procedures ended up costing them billions of dollars. There were mass amounts of lawsuits rolling in, and there was no way that the company could claim innocence in the matter.
