The Yaz Lawsuit has affected more than 10,000 patients. Users taking this birth control, or contraceptive, have experienced blood clots, strokes and other blood and heart problems including up to death.
The Lawsuit Claims
The market claims that the drug was marketed to patients exaggerating benefits of the drug outside of birth control including acne reduction and pre-menstrual syndrome. The benefits took the attention off of the dangerous side effects that the drugs come with. For example, it was reported that thousands of users were experiencing twice as many blood clots as the typical woman who was on a contraceptive. Additionally, there are claims that the commercials imply that the Yaz drug can treat severe acne and PMS. In actuality, Yaz was only approved to treat moderate acne and Premenstrual Dysphonic Disorder. There were also claims that the manufacturer didn’t recall the drug after there were reports that the drug was causing life-threatening side effects. In addition, there are claims that the manufacturer did not clearly define the side effect associated with the contraceptive. The claims again Yaz include negligence, negligent misrepresentation, failure to monitor, fraudulent concealment and deceit.

The serious adverse reactions are being linked to drospirenone, synthetic progesterone. It causes the potassium in the body to elevated, which can cause serious heart and health conditions. The Averse Events reporting system that is maintained by the U.S. Food a Drug Administration (FDA) lists reports of heart arrhythmias, imbalance of the electrolytes, blood clots, embolisms, strokes, issues with the gallbladder and sudden death.
